Premiere of Wagner’s opera »Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg« at the Theatre Ulm

FRANKFURTER ALLGEMEINE ZEITUNG
Although it might seem as though “Die Meistersinger” marks the culmination of Metzger’s professional career, a very pragmatic reason was the deciding factor in the choice of this work – the opportunity to cast the house soprano Maryna Zubko in the female lead role, a part she wished to take on following a change in her vocal repertoire. She brings to life the “morning glow” that Stolzing utopianly evokes in his prize song as a lyrical emanation: a song filled with beauty and a longing for happiness, which also exerts its erotic appeal on Sachs.

SWR KULTUR
Outstanding performances by Joachim Goltz and Maryna Zubko
Not only does Eva, played by Maryna Zubko, have the most beautiful voice of the evening, but she also fights fiercely for her sexual autonomy and turns more than just Sachs’s head.
