New Soprano
Violetta, the radiant Parisian courtesan doomed to die of lung disease, whom Alexandre Dumas, Jr. had in mind for his “The Lady of the Camellias”, is the Landestheater’s new soprano, Maryna Zubko.
With her powerful, radiant voice across all registers, as well as her spirited physical performance, she conveyed the ever-resurgent will to live that is fueled precisely by Alfredo’s unwavering love. She, in particular: captivating, both vocally and in her stage presence.

A major contributor to the success of this fabulous ensemble was the newly hired German-Ukrainian soprano Maryna Zubko, who – both vocally and in her stage presence – proved to be the ideal choice for the role of a passionate Violetta and whose vocal brilliance will soon make her in demand far beyond the region. With pianissimi full of substance as well as dramatic soprano high notes, subtly accented with just the right amount of thrilling vibrato, she captivated the audience from her entrance aria “Libiamo ne’lieti calici” right through to the doubt-filled “È strano! È strano!”
